Next to thoughts
of Basho’s solitary
Autumn flower without
a touch of “butterfly
or bird”,
Dry leaves shudder
again
to turn,
ordained of Heaven’s
daydreaming;
Sun wrought
miracles of
gold into yellows
emerge
& softly lift into
a stilling hush
of cool
October air/
As Sounds of homebound
students
pass my front gate-
I may
gaze into
that
grey portrait
of vast Harvest
sky,
looking for
promises of rain
all evening.

What newer visions
arrive/
Spirit led &
sent of Angels?
What grace re-given
(O Lord)
of countless ages?
One blessing
your eternal measure
of mending faith;
One Love which re-orders
great galaxies
of even our
deepest despairing,
O my Love.

End of Days.
Last things to say
to you, last days,
inside a dream of
forever-
We asked silence of Love
& in rapt funeral shroud
like Raven’s wings, embraced it &
knew the end
beyond all tomorrows.-
